Award-Winning  Autism  Researcher Advocates  for  Parent  Education  Re: Variety of Therapeutic Approaches!

January 11, 2022 Update:

Meta analysis research team led by Michael Sandbank published a 2-page opinion in JAMA Pediatrics on the radically changing evidence base for treatment approaches for autistic children and urges providers to alert parents to the variety of approaches available, including behavioral and developmental approaches!! The team advises multi-disciplinary integrated approaches and advises against rote recommendations for every child! This helps our efforts to get out the word that developmental approaches are evidence based!

GOALS

  • Legislative advocacy to ensure our ability to offer Evidence-Based Practice as defined by the medical and healthcare community (Sackett et. Al, 1996) as the use of clinical judgment with the best available research to provide families truly informed consent. In this way, families become empowered to choose approaches best suited to their needs.
  • Fund-raising in order to accomplish this aim
  • Development and nurturing of ongoing relationships with legislators and other key people
  • Maintenance of mutually supportive relationships with our colleagues in other states and countries
  • Promotion of more extensive research to clarify the efficacy of DIR/Floortime philosophy and interventions
