Resolution#14SA: Support for coverage and payment for evidence-based services to children, youth, and young adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities.
RESOLVED, that the academy support coverage and payment to all evidence-based services to all children, youth and young adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities, including those with public insurance, and be it further
RESOLVED, that the academy collaborate with key stakeholders, including children, youth and young adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities, and their families, to (a) understand and encourage services that respect neurodiversity and (b) educate pediatricians about the range of evidence-based therapies available to children and youth with neurodevelopmental disabilities.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) approved in July 2025 this groundbreaking resolution regarding coverage and payment for evidence-based services to children, youth, and young adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Out of hundreds of proposed resolutions at the 2024 Leadership Conference, this was voted #14, indicating a high degree of concurrence and importance amongst AAP membership. As with other AAP resolutions approved by the Leadership Conference, the resolution was referred to their appropriate section, in this case the Council on Children with Disabilities (COCWD). The AAP's COCWD is in agreement with the resolution and is considering a variety of initiatives to implement the resolution in meaningful ways.
Our Coalition worked with the resolution’s author, Elizabeth Grady, MD. We were so happy Dr. Grady attended our most recent Coalition weekly strategy meeting and thanked us for providing the substance and terminology for the resolution.
